Primitives
I - Primitive d'une fonction continue
1 - Définition
Exemple
$F(x) = x^3 + 5$ est une primitive de $f(x) = 3x^2$ sur $\mathbb{R}$ car $F'(x) = 3x^2 = f(x)$. La fonction $G(x) = x^3 - 2$ en est une autre.
Conséquence : pour $x_0 \in I$ et $y_0 \in \mathbb{R}$ donnés, il existe une unique primitive $F$ de $f$ sur $I$ telle que $F(x_0) = y_0$.
2 - Primitives des fonctions usuelles
| Fonction | Primitive | Intervalle |
|---|---|---|
| $x \mapsto k$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$ | $x \mapsto kx$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto x^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{x^{n+1}}{n+1}$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^n}$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$, $n \geqslant 2$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,x^{n-1}}$ | $]-\infty\,;\,0[$ ou $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto e^x$ | $x \mapsto e^x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x}$ | $x \mapsto \ln x$ | $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{x}}$ | $x \mapsto \sqrt{x}$ | $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto \cos x$ | $x \mapsto \sin x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \sin x$ | $x \mapsto -\cos x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
Méthode : calcul d'une primitive simple
Calculer une primitive de la fonction $f : x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^3}$ sur $[1\,;\,2]$ ($f$ est continue sur $[1\,;\,2]$).
1) On reconnaît la forme $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^n}$ avec $n = 3$, dont une primitive est $x \mapsto \dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,x^{n-1}}$.
2) On calcule : $F(x) = \dfrac{-1}{(3-1)\,x^{3-1}} = -\dfrac{1}{2x^2}$.
Exemple
$f(x) = 4x^3 - 6x + 5 + \dfrac{2}{x}$ sur $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ : une primitive est $F(x) = x^4 - 3x^2 + 5x + 2\ln x$.
3 - Primitives et opérations, fonctions composées
| Fonction | Primitive | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| $u' + v'$ | $u + v$ | |
| $k\,u'$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$ | $k\,u$ | |
| $u'\,u^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}^*$ | $\dfrac{u^{n+1}}{n+1}$ | |
| $\dfrac{u'}{u^n}$, $n \geqslant 2$ | $\dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,u^{n-1}}$ | $u(x) \neq 0$ |
| $u'\,e^u$ | $e^u$ | |
| $\dfrac{u'}{\sqrt{u}}$ | $2\sqrt{u}$ | $u(x) > 0$ |
| $\dfrac{u'}{u}$ | $\ln u$ | $u(x) > 0$ |
2) $u'(x) = 2$ donc $u'(x)\,u^n(x) = 2(2x+1)^3$.
3) On cherche $k$ tel que $f = k\,u'\,u^n$ : $(2x+1)^3 = k \times 2(2x+1)^3$ donc $k = \dfrac{1}{2}$.
4) $F = k \times \dfrac{u^{n+1}}{n+1}$, donc $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2} \times \dfrac{(2x+1)^4}{4} = \dfrac{(2x+1)^4}{8}$.
Exemples
- $f(x) = e^{3x - 1}$ : $f = \dfrac{1}{3}u'e^u$ avec $u(x) = 3x - 1$, donc $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{3}e^{3x - 1}$.
- $f(x) = \dfrac{x}{x^2 + 1}$ sur $\mathbb{R}$ : $f = \dfrac{1}{2}\dfrac{u'}{u}$ avec $u(x) = x^2 + 1 > 0$, donc $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2}\ln(x^2 + 1)$.
- $f(x) = \cos(2x)$ : $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2}\sin(2x)$.
Remarque :
2) $F(1) = 2 - 1 + 1 + c = 2 + c = 4$ donc $c = 2$.
3) $F(x) = 2x^3 - x^2 + x + 2$.
Antiderivatives
I - Antiderivative of a continuous function
1 - Definition
Example
$F(x) = x^3 + 5$ is an antiderivative of $f(x) = 3x^2$ on $\mathbb{R}$ since $F'(x) = 3x^2 = f(x)$. The function $G(x) = x^3 - 2$ is another one.
Consequence : for given $x_0 \in I$ and $y_0 \in \mathbb{R}$, there is a unique antiderivative $F$ of $f$ on $I$ such that $F(x_0) = y_0$.
2 - Antiderivatives of usual functions
| Function | Antiderivative | Interval |
|---|---|---|
| $x \mapsto k$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$ | $x \mapsto kx$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto x^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{x^{n+1}}{n+1}$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^n}$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$, $n \geqslant 2$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,x^{n-1}}$ | $]-\infty\,;\,0[$ or $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto e^x$ | $x \mapsto e^x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x}$ | $x \mapsto \ln x$ | $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{x}}$ | $x \mapsto \sqrt{x}$ | $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto \cos x$ | $x \mapsto \sin x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \sin x$ | $x \mapsto -\cos x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
Method: computing a simple antiderivative
Find an antiderivative of $f : x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^3}$ on $[1\,;\,2]$ ($f$ is continuous on $[1\,;\,2]$).
1) We recognise the form $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^n}$ with $n = 3$, whose antiderivative is $x \mapsto \dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,x^{n-1}}$.
2) We compute: $F(x) = \dfrac{-1}{(3-1)\,x^{3-1}} = -\dfrac{1}{2x^2}$.
Example
$f(x) = 4x^3 - 6x + 5 + \dfrac{2}{x}$ on $]0\,;\,+\infty[$: an antiderivative is $F(x) = x^4 - 3x^2 + 5x + 2\ln x$.
3 - Operations and composite functions
| Function | Antiderivative | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| $u' + v'$ | $u + v$ | |
| $k\,u'$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$ | $k\,u$ | |
| $u'\,u^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}^*$ | $\dfrac{u^{n+1}}{n+1}$ | |
| $\dfrac{u'}{u^n}$, $n \geqslant 2$ | $\dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,u^{n-1}}$ | $u(x) \neq 0$ |
| $u'\,e^u$ | $e^u$ | |
| $\dfrac{u'}{\sqrt{u}}$ | $2\sqrt{u}$ | $u(x) > 0$ |
| $\dfrac{u'}{u}$ | $\ln u$ | $u(x) > 0$ |
| $x \mapsto u(ax+b)$, $a \neq 0$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{a}\,U(ax+b)$ | $U$ antiderivative of $u$ |
Method: antiderivative of a composite function
Find an antiderivative of the function defined on $\mathbb{R}$ by $f(x) = (2x+1)^3$.
1) The suitable form is $u'\,u^n$ with $u(x) = 2x + 1$ and $n = 3$.
2) $u'(x) = 2$ so $u'(x)\,u^n(x) = 2(2x+1)^3$.
3) We look for $k$ such that $f = k\,u'\,u^n$: $(2x+1)^3 = k \times 2(2x+1)^3$ so $k = \dfrac{1}{2}$.
4) $F = k \times \dfrac{u^{n+1}}{n+1}$, so $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2} \times \dfrac{(2x+1)^4}{4} = \dfrac{(2x+1)^4}{8}$.
Examples
- $f(x) = e^{3x - 1}$: $f = \dfrac{1}{3}u'e^u$ with $u(x) = 3x - 1$, so $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{3}e^{3x - 1}$.
- $f(x) = \dfrac{x}{x^2 + 1}$ on $\mathbb{R}$: $f = \dfrac{1}{2}\dfrac{u'}{u}$ with $u(x) = x^2 + 1 > 0$, so $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2}\ln(x^2 + 1)$.
- $f(x) = \cos(2x)$: $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2}\sin(2x)$.
Remark :
- To be sure that $F$ is an antiderivative of $f$, just check that $F' = f$.
- Some functions, like $x \mapsto e^{-x^2}$, have no antiderivative expressible with usual functions.
II - Antiderivative satisfying a condition
Method
Find the antiderivative $F$ of $f(x) = 6x^2 - 2x + 1$ on $\mathbb{R}$ such that $F(1) = 4$.
1) The antiderivatives of $f$ are $F(x) = 2x^3 - x^2 + x + c$, $c \in \mathbb{R}$.
2) $F(1) = 2 - 1 + 1 + c = 2 + c = 4$ so $c = 2$.
3) $F(x) = 2x^3 - x^2 + x + 2$.
Primitivas
I - Primitiva de una función continua
1 - Definición
Ejemplo
$F(x) = x^3 + 5$ es una primitiva de $f(x) = 3x^2$ en $\mathbb{R}$ pues $F'(x) = 3x^2 = f(x)$. La función $G(x) = x^3 - 2$ es otra.
Consecuencia : dados $x_0 \in I$ e $y_0 \in \mathbb{R}$, existe una única primitiva $F$ de $f$ en $I$ tal que $F(x_0) = y_0$.
2 - Primitivas de las funciones usuales
| Función | Primitiva | Intervalo |
|---|---|---|
| $x \mapsto k$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$ | $x \mapsto kx$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto x^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{x^{n+1}}{n+1}$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^n}$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$, $n \geqslant 2$ | $x \mapsto \dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,x^{n-1}}$ | $]-\infty\,;\,0[$ o $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto e^x$ | $x \mapsto e^x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x}$ | $x \mapsto \ln x$ | $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{x}}$ | $x \mapsto \sqrt{x}$ | $]0\,;\,+\infty[$ |
| $x \mapsto \cos x$ | $x \mapsto \sin x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
| $x \mapsto \sin x$ | $x \mapsto -\cos x$ | $\mathbb{R}$ |
Método: cálculo de una primitiva simple
Calcular una primitiva de $f : x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^3}$ en $[1\,;\,2]$ ($f$ es continua en $[1\,;\,2]$).
1) Se reconoce la forma $x \mapsto \dfrac{1}{x^n}$ con $n = 3$, cuya primitiva es $x \mapsto \dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,x^{n-1}}$.
2) Se calcula: $F(x) = \dfrac{-1}{(3-1)\,x^{3-1}} = -\dfrac{1}{2x^2}$.
Ejemplo
$f(x) = 4x^3 - 6x + 5 + \dfrac{2}{x}$ en $]0\,;\,+\infty[$: una primitiva es $F(x) = x^4 - 3x^2 + 5x + 2\ln x$.
3 - Operaciones y funciones compuestas
| Función | Primitiva | Condición |
|---|---|---|
| $u' + v'$ | $u + v$ | |
| $k\,u'$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$ | $k\,u$ | |
| $u'\,u^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}^*$ | $\dfrac{u^{n+1}}{n+1}$ | |
| $\dfrac{u'}{u^n}$, $n \geqslant 2$ | $\dfrac{-1}{(n-1)\,u^{n-1}}$ | $u(x) \neq 0$ |
| $u'\,e^u$ | $e^u$ | |
| $\dfrac{u'}{\sqrt{u}}$ | $2\sqrt{u}$ | $u(x) > 0$ |
| $\dfrac{u'}{u}$ | $\ln u$ | $u(x) > 0$ |
2) $u'(x) = 2$ luego $u'(x)\,u^n(x) = 2(2x+1)^3$.
3) Se busca $k$ tal que $f = k\,u'\,u^n$: $(2x+1)^3 = k \times 2(2x+1)^3$ luego $k = \dfrac{1}{2}$.
4) $F = k \times \dfrac{u^{n+1}}{n+1}$, luego $F(x) = \dfrac{1}{2} \times \dfrac{(2x+1)^4}{4} = \dfrac{(2x+1)^4}{8}$.
Ejemplos
2) $F(1) = 2 - 1 + 1 + c = 2 + c = 4$ luego $c = 2$.
3) $F(x) = 2x^3 - x^2 + x + 2$.
